  1. If one gathers from the Bible all the verses that speak about the vine of the Lord, you will find that Israel is the vine that God took from Egypt and planted in good soil. It became a very large vine, but it connected with idols and so produced wild grapes, so the Lord destroyed its fence, and it was trampled by wild boars, robbed by thieves, burnt and cut. At the end remained only its root, that was replanted in a dry land, and this is Israel. This promise of Is 23:5-6, instead gave an unexpected chance to this almost destroyed vine. A branch that will come out of this dried root will give new life to Israel. And here comes Is 53:3: “He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground”. The sprout that came out of that almost dead root is Jesus Christ. So if all the vine was cut, the only Israel that existed at that moment was Jesus. Then, by baptism and faith God, the Vinedresser, began to graft branches to the new Vine, to the new Israel. So, all promises given in the Old testament to the seed of Israel are fulfilled in Christ, the only Israel that by the new covenant makes everyone partaker of the promises given to Abraham. So the Christian Church is the New Israel, and Jesus still says: “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples” John 15:1-8. Everyone of us can be Israel, a branch of this Vine, part of the Body of Christ, partaker of His eternal destiny.
