Fasting has a religious meaning when it expresses self-denial in favor of the divine will. But the divine will for us is mainly to love one another as we have seen that He loves us. Then, the main part of fasting is to stop harming our neighbor and begin to do him good. this is the fast pleasing to the Lord.
