The biblical concept of salvation is rendered by the expression “to bring out to a wide place”. Sin, with its myriad of elements, leads man in a tight spot. It makes us helpless and dependent, slaves.
Literally this verse says: “I am helpless (I cannot help myself; I am not independent) and I suffer. May your salvation take me to a safe place (a place too high, inaccessible to enemies)”. Only in Christ we become intangible and invincible, so the solution to our problem and struggle with our strength is to be and remain in Christ where we are unassailable and invincible.
